The California Ski-O Championships are awarded to the top male and female competitors on each course who participated in two of the three California ski-O events (Burton Creek, Royal Gorge, and Bear Valley).
To determine the winners, we add up the placings for each competitor, then take an average for their top two events. If competitors are tied, we compare their placings at the events in which they competed against one another in the reverse chronological order of those events (Bear Valley first, Royal Gorge second, and Burton Creek third). Only competitors who raced alone are counted. Second courses do not count if they share controls or use the same area as the first course at any venue. Disqualifying finish statuses (for example, DNF and MP) do not count. There are no residency requirements.
Kent Ohlund (defending champion from 2001) and Brenda Giese took the championships for the Blue course. Alex and Yelena Krasnov took the championships for the Green course. (Yelena is the only truely undisputed champion, having placed first in all three events.) Jay Hann is the male champion for the Orange course. Stacy Goss is the female champion for the Yellow course (a nearly undisputed champion, having placed first in two of three events). Yuko Izuta is the female champion for the White course (another nearly undisputed champion having placed first at two of three events).
Special honors for competing in all three ski-O events go to Yuko Izuta, Hiroshi Izuta, Elliot Delaye, Alex Krasnov, Yelena Krasnov, Vadimas Masalkovas, Andrejus Masalkovas, and Brenda Giese. Those listed here who did not have three rankings in the ski-O champs listing had a DNF or MP status for one of their courses.
