Event AnnouncementWinsplits
Note about the Winsplits (by Evan Custer): The clock in control unit 217 (Brown 9, Green 12, Red 14, Blue 17) lost 40:38. Therefore, you will have a negative split for that course. Add 40:38 to the minus split time to get your accurate split time, and subtract 40:38 from the split for the next control. A similar thing happened to control 155 on long orange (AR). However, I do not have what the correction time should be for that control.

Writeup by Mark Blair
It was a dark and stormy night… Well, no. It was a somewhat grey and chilly morning to be considerably more accurate. The rather unseasonable weather kept the attendance a little low, but for those out on the course the cool weather made for fast, pleasant running.
As is always the case at Briones, the challenge for the course setters is to create navigationally interesting courses that are not physically too demanding, and avoid some of the worst of the poison oak. This year we had the added goal for the intermediate and advanced of using the recently extended western section of the map, a generally interesting area of mixed woodland and meadow, albeit with the typically steepness. Overall the courses were physically tough, and required some route choice. The early stages of the advanced courses were a little dull since they paralleled a trail. In hindsight perhaps we should have rethought that element. Live and learn.
The white course stayed near the parking area, and unlike many white courses was generally off-trail, following a fence boundary and forest edge for much of the route. Christina Haldenwang flew round the course in just 16 minutes for the fastest time.
The yellow course was navigationally simpler than normal since it used a trail that was surrounded by poison oak, limiting the route choices. Jackie Wong completed the course in an impressive 34 minutes.
The Orange and Long Orange (Adventure Race) courses had similar routes with a few extra controls for the longer course. Dennis Wilkinson was almost twice as fast as the next fastest person on orange. Adam Citerella was fastest on the Long Orange.
The advanced courses all had similar controls for the first 4 legs and then diverged. Winners on the brown, green, red, and blue courses were James Wilson (trusty registration leader for the East Bay), Misha Liptov (a grad student at Stanford), Joe Pappendick, and Syd Reader (respectively)
As always a big Thank You! to all the volunteers.
