USOF Convention

Outdoor Skills Sessions

Outdoor skills sessions will be held each day of the convention. They are designed to enhance the skills of intermediate and advanced orienteers, although orienteers of all skill levels are welcome. The workshops will include both verbal instruction and field work. Some sessions will be led by top U.S. orienteers. All sessions will be held on the convention site map at Northstar.

Tuesday, August 1

"Reading ahead and efficient control punching"
(Also an electronic punching model.)

2:00-4:30 pm
Northstar (location changed from Boreal)

Park in the Northstar Village parking lot and follow the signs and streamers to the gathering area.

Wednesday, August 2

Led by Bob Turbyfill.

3:00-5:00 pm
Meet under the Big Map.

Thursday, August 3

"Shadowing, the best skills improvement exercise"

2:15-4:15 pm

Friday, August 4

No formal skills session. Instead, we can supply you with a map of some of the very intricate control legs that were used in Wednesday's Sawmill Flat A-meet. These maps will be available on request in the Sierra Room before and after any workshops. You will need to drive a few minutes to get to the area. But these legs will be excellent practice for pacing and compassing - skills that will be needed for the weekend Burton Creek A-meet .
