They came, they saw, they sprinted.
Sprint events flourished in 2008, with 14 total, and a few new course setters getting into the mix.
Thanks to Matthias Kohler for setting the two sprints at Stanford last Sunday. Later on at the potluck, award certificates were presented to the winners for 2008 in different age classes, with the Stanford results incorporated.
Many people who posted high sprint scores at some events could have used more events to help them in the standings. Francois Leonard or Ben Legg or other people, for example, did on average better than me at any given sprint—and each even had the course setter bonus—and if they had attended a few more would surely have bumped me down in the standings.
So I hope next year participation continues to increase, so that the results reflect a good effort from a good sampling of the club in all the age and gender classes. We are particularly lacking in "F21", or women under 40—no one had the prerequisite 5 sprints to qualify!
