Staffing

This is another step in the continuing education of our Junior atheletes, and the first time a Junior is serving as Event Director. Daniel, William, and Philipp have all set courses before — the practice of course setting is not only fun, but gives the setter an invaluable perspective that also makes them a better orienteer.

Map making and event directing are also other avenues of training. Matej Sebo has remapped both Bayfront Park and Shell Ridge, and is ranked 14th in the nation in class M–20 (76.96) while still in 10th grade. This will be Daniel’s debut as an event director (within the last year he has earned U.S. Championships in Rogaine and Ski-O).

Lastly, I invite all Juniors to advance your skills with course setting, map making, event directing, and other positions of leadership.

I hope that everyone can join us on February 19th for what is shaping up to be a wonderful event.

Driving Directions

To get to Vasona Lake, take Highway 17 South from San Jose. Exit at Lark Avenue and turn left (east, over the highway at the light). At the first traffic light, turn right (south) onto Los Gatos Boulevard. Turn right again (west) at a traffic light onto Blossom Hill Road. After crossing over Highway 17 again, the park entrance will be on your right.

There is a $6 park fee per car, which you pay at a kiosk. The machine accepts credit cards.

After paying, follow the directional signs on the park roads to the largest parking lot by the boat house. Registration is at the north end of that parking lot.

There's a map here that shows the location of the event.
