What an amazing day of orienteering at Calero! The weather was perfect, and we had over 150 people participate in the courses. A fabulous turnout, especially for beginners, and we look forward to seeing the new faces again at future BAOC events.
As you might have read in the results, we had only one small problem. That was with control #82, which was the second control on the Orange course. It was set correctly late Saturday afternoon at a location just off-trail, and then went missing sometime before the event. That’s all we know. Apologies to those running Orange who were affected.
As ever, the entire event depended on all our wonderful volunteers. I have tried to capture all the names in the list below, but if I missed you, please let me know and we will amend this.
A special shout out to Misha Kreslavsky who spent multiple long days in the field and behind a computer improving the Calero map especially for this event. A big thanks to Jeff Lanam for single-handedly running E-punch. And from me personally, a huge thank you to John Richardson who entirely saved the day. On the way to Calero early Sunday morning, I locked myself out of my car, which contained most of the equipment for running the event! Thankfully John was only a few minutes away, and with the aid of a couple of BAOC control stands we soon broke into my car. Disaster averted! This, in addition to John’s tireless and exemplary course setting.
The success of BAOC events 100% depends on our volunteers. There are countless small ways in which anyone — experienced or not — can make a difference. If you wish to volunteer at an upcoming event, please contact the appropriate Event Director. Speaking of which, our next two events are at Browns Valley (near Vacaville) on February 25th and Joe Grant (east of San Jose) on March 17th. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!
Lost and Found
One item of lost and found: A pair of glossy-black prescription sunglasses was handed in at the Download table by the people who found them. (We don't know where they were found — possibly out on a course.) These are prescription lenses, not just regular sunglasses, and look fairly new, so I’m sure the owner is keen to get them back. If that is you, or you know who that might be, let me know.

Thanks to Graham Brew and John Richardson for a fun event in great weather! We had a problem with one control on the Orange course that was apparently stolen before the event started. The control was marked in the system as missing, so nobody was classified DNF for missing that control, but of course, we cannot correct for the amount of time people took looking for the control. We apologize for that problem!
