We had a wonderful turnout at Diablo Valley College, with approximately 125 participants enjoying a beautiful day of orienteering. The weather was excellent — comfortable temperatures and clear conditions made for a perfect outing for both newcomers and experienced orienteers.
A very special thank you to Course Setter Matteo Guareschi, who deserves the biggest kudos. Matteo invested significant effort in designing fun and engaging courses, ensuring that control placements were both challenging and appropriate, verifying accurate control descriptions, and helping with map printing.
I also have many people to thank for the success of the event:
- Registration team: Sarah Williams, Steve Haas, Chuck Spalding, and Dennis Wildfogel, who kept things organized and welcoming at check-in.
- E-punch team: Jeff Lanam, John Blakkan, Phil Lacroute, and Rosemary Johnson, who as always ensured smooth rental and results processing throughout the day, and for publishing the results.
- A special shoutout to Yunying Chiu for staying at the event the entire day, helping with setup, covering the first starts shift, assisting with takedown, and joining control pickup.
- Beginner Clinics: A big thank you to Sheila Cotter, who did class after class for hours, and also to Scott Aster for helping several first-timers.
- Event webpages: Chuck Spalding created and kept the website information and volunteer spreadsheet up to date.
- Event setup: Yunying Chiu, John Blakkan, and Valerie Lacroute
- Takedown and control pickup: Ginny Wailes, Yunying Chiu, Matteo Guareschi, Rex Winterbottom, Tapio Karras, and Werner Haag
- Course vetting and review: Marie-Josée Parayre, Matej Šebo, François Léonard, and Vicki Woolworth, whose feedback helped refine the courses.
- Thanks to Nancy Tolton and the DVC facility rental team for lining things up for us.

Overall, this was a smoothly run and enjoyable event, made possible by the efforts of many volunteers. I hope to see you all at Evergreen Valley College on Saturday, July 11th!

Thanks everybody for showing up and helping. A huge thank you to Weichun, for putting together a wonderful event and, personally, for all the communication, for coming out with me the first time, vetting, putting up controls, doing starts, picking up controls, taking cones back to the locker, etc., etc.!
And for a ton of help with clue sheets and vetting: Marie-Josée, Vicki, and Matej. And thank you, François, for the post-race debrief!

- In RouteGadget, you can enter your route manually or upload a GPS recording and adjust to fit our map. The following tips apply to the GPS method.
- RouteGadget Tip #1: After selecting your GPX file, make sure to adjust the time offset between starting your watch at the Start line and leaving the Start Triangle. The offset can have a significant impact on your route accuracy. For most local events, you should set the offset to 0 as we start from the triangle (assuming you started your watch exactly when you started).
- RouteGadget Tip #2: After uploading your GPS track to RouteGadget, you can create additional blue adjustment points by right-clicking your track. You can use these points to better align your route with the map, for example, along trails. You can delete extra adjustment points by right-clicking them.
