Thank you to everybody for coming out to UC Berkeley and enjoying the crisp weather and stellar courses from François Léonard. We had over 108 participants (a lot of groups & families!) that came out, with some visiting for the upcoming Cal-O-Fest (https://www.cal-o-fest.com/) and others trying orienteering for the first time. Thank you to everyone for their patience, and a special thank you to all of our amazing volunteers. None of this would have been possible without you.
A huge thank you goes out to François for setting technical and educational courses that highlighted many of Berkeley's most complicated nuances. Even though a lot of runners had trouble with reading the various levels on the map (especially at the parking-garage control), it was helpful to familiarize oneself with the symbols and tricks that are common in Sprint events before embarking on the high-stakes Cal-O-Fest events. Even with all of the upcoming looming logistics of Cal-O-Fest, François and Marie-Josée Parayre both put in an immense amount of time and effort to make this event a success.
Another huge thank you goes out to our incredible E-punch and fearless registration teams: Jay Hann, Sarah Williams, Steve Haas, and Dennis Wildfogel all braved long lines of people and volunteered a huge part of their day to make sure all this was possible. Thank you to Jeff Lanam for his heroic search for a scanner/printer when we ran out of Beginner and Short maps, and a huge thank you to Chuck Spalding for helping me out with beginner clinics when I was overwhelmed by the crowd. Thank you to our stalwart start crew (Graham Brew, Yuxuan (Billy) Bao, Lubomir Šebo) and to our cheery control-pickup/teardown crew (François Léonard, Marie-Josée Parayre, Jay Hann, Lubomir Šebo, Billy Bao, Matej Šebo, Steve Gregg, Rex Winterbottom, and James Roney). Thank you to anyone else that I might've forgotten—you know who you are. Thank you, as well, to everyone who gave up their map so that more people could run the Beginner and Short courses—it's never a good feeling to give up a map, but you helped give someone else a special experience (one map was used three times).

Great turnout at UC Berkeley. Thanks as ever to all the volunteers, especially Daniel Šebo for Event Directing and François Léonard for the courses. Looks like subterranean control #40 caught out a few people. No one who ran the advanced courses will soon forget that!
As usual, there are some new people whose birth years and genders I do not have. If you are one of these people, and you send me your birth year and gender, you will almost certainly get a bump in points (because 21-year-old male is assumed if we don't have your info).

The Summer Series will now take a short pause for Cal-O-Fest (https://www.cal-o-fest.com), which starts on Monday, July 17th, at the Presidio in San Francisco! If you are not already signed-up, you can sign up at each event on the day.
The Summer Series will recommence with Event #5 at Diablo Valley College in Pleasent Hill on August 13th (permit dependent). See you there! (The Summer Series webpage is here.)
